Open plan granny flat 4m x 7m with feature wall cladding at Long Jetty, Sydney NSW

While most customers get assistance from our network with their building designs and approvals, this customer from Long Jetty opted to undertake their project as an owner-builder, following the instructions provided with the flatpack building kit from Backyard Pods.

To get the architectural drawings needed to submit for approval, the customer used the NSW architect in our network who charges a reasonable fixed fee for not just the drawings for building approval but the entire approval process as well if desired.

The basic Backyard Pod kit (with eaves) is 4m wide by 7m in length, plus the matching veranda and deck kit 1.5m x 7m. The colour chosen for the exterior is Colorbond Surf Mist for all external walls and the undersides of the eaves and veranda, with standard Zincalume roofing. Surf Mist is a perfectly fresh and modern colour for poolside granny flats (like this one) or pool houses, and it’s more energy efficient too. For building poolside, like this example, it’s mandatory to maintain pool safety compliance with fencing, etc, between the pool and the building. A new pool inspection certificate may be necessary.

The interior design of this 1-bedroom granny flat is spacious, airy, and bathed in natural light. The comfortable living and entertainment area has a kitchenette, and the bedroom or sleeping zone features a neat ensuite bathroom.

Kudos to our customer for making very neat pads around the 1500mm foundation piers supplied with the kit. With such care taken outside, there can be reassurance of the overall approach to quality workmanship as demonstrated in these construction and building photographs.
