Home office pods NSW - rural pic 6

DIY double-glazed home office pod 4m x 4m on acreage in rural Southern Tablelands NSW

Rural properties often evolve over time – perhaps starting with a small cabin and growing with enclosed verandas and outbuildings (sometimes over generations) until the homestead ideal is fully expressed. Our customer on acreage in the Southern Tablelands added a cozy double-glazed home office as a DIY building project – well done! Out in the country, the focus is on functionality more than aesthetics, and this little home office pod is big on practicality!

4m x 4m is a great size for your Backyard Pod – slightly larger than last century’s traditional bedroom size of 3.6m x 3.6m. Whether you’re building a home office or guest cabin or just a backyard studio for a bit of extra fun, 4m x 4m non-habitable can qualify for exempt development on residential land in NSW (providing the rules for exempt development are being met).

Out in the countryside of NSW, QLD, and VIC, there are MANY flatpack building kits from Backyard Pods that have been assembled into separate outbuildings like this one. The corrugated profile blends well with other buildings in the Australian rural landscape, such as sheds and water tanks. People in rural areas will often choose to have their Backyard Pod in the natural Zincalume colour, rather than Colorbond, to make the most of its connection with traditional farm outbuildings. Our customer used ‘screw piers’, different from the standard piers we normally supply with our flatpack building kits, yet these seem to have worked out very well for their on-site needs.

This home office pod has optional eaves on all sides for increased shade and weather protection. The double-glazed Polar Eco-View sliding door and awning-style windows are available from Backyard Pods as well. We supply the lintels to fit the width of the openings and then it’s basically up to you where you want to position them. That’s great because if you change your mind about where you want to have a window, or the height for placement, just change your mind and position it on another wall or at a different height. Yes, our flatpack building kits offer great flexibility when last-minute changes are wanted.

Our customer was not a professional builder or carpenter but virtually anyone can build one of our Backyard Pods given some previous building experience, the right tools, and a few friends to help when needed for lifting. While nothing is ever ‘easy’ when it comes to building, countless customers have managed to build their own Backyard Pod.

And even if you’re not that handy, we’ve probably got experienced builders or installers who would be happy to quote on completing your Backyard Pod for you. Just ask us and we’ll help you with whatever you need to get your project completed at the lowest possible cost and least amount of hassle.
