2-storey home extension 2-bedroom granny flat at Eatons Hill, Brisbane QLD

Everyone has their own ideas for a Backyard Pod but few customers have a vision so large and unconventional as this customer in Eatons Hill, a suburb of Brisbane. Right from the start, our customer’s wish was to create a 2-storey home extension with a granny flat upstairs and space downstairs for eventual construction of home gym and more utility rooms.

With help from our network partner architect, our customer’s concept was achieved by customising the elevation of the Backyard Pod on load-bearing members (you can see the sturdy steel members in the photographs). The basic Backyard Pod kit is 4.5m wide by 11m in length, plus the veranda which extends the overall footprint for another 1.8m in width. The colour chosen for the exterior is Colorbond Night Sky, which is almost jet black and quite unusual for QLD.

The interior design of the granny flat is also unusual. It features a kitchenette and two spacious bedrooms. The main bedroom has a walk-in wardrobe and ensuite with separate shower and bath, as well as a double vanity unit. The second bedroom has a built-in wardrobe and ensuite with a shower.

In keeping with QLD building regulations, the energy efficiency rating was achieved and everything was approved for our customer to go ahead with construction using one of our network builders in Brisbane, who is very capable and experienced with Backyard Pods.
