1-bedroom backyard cabin 4m x 10m with private facilities at Helensvale, Gold Coast

Our customer at Helensvale on the Gold Coast didn’t need a completely self-contained granny flat. Just a backyard cabin with a separate bedroom and ensuite, an open-plan living area, and a kitchenette. They can share laundry facilities with the main house. With a Backyard Pod kit 4m x 10m, combined with our veranda and deck kit 1.5m-wide, our customer met their needs on a budget even with a sloping block. Approvals and on-site works were handled for them by our QLD network.

The colour of the external walls is Colorbond Paperbark, a soft neutral. The roof is optional Colorbond rather than standard Zincalume, and the colour is Jasper, along with the eaves. You can go all dark and contemporary, blend into the bush with the soft green-based range, or go for an overall lighter look. You can have all your structural elements in the same colour, which can look very sleek, especially in darker colours, or mix and match with contrasting colours, or blend colours like with this backyard cabin project.

This project needed approval, as with any habitable dwelling in Australia. Approval and certifications were organised by our network partner for Queensland, and then the entire project is being managed to completion for our customer. We’ve been happy to help.

Sloping blocks and sites with difficult access are no problem when your project is based on one of our flatpack kits. It’s true that one of our flatpack building kits has been installed inside the northern pylon of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Some people have literally untethered their kit delivery and carried the materials through their terrace house into their rear courtyard with no external access, where the pod kit has been erected. Amazing.
