Not everyone needs a granny flat in the backyard, or even a studio with an ensuite. For many people, all they need is an extra room for use as a home office, music studio or design space, man cave, or breakout room. This air-conditioned 3.6m x 6m art studio with a sink in Doreen, a suburb of Melbourne, is a great example.

After researching various building options and suppliers in Melbourne, our customer settled on Backyard Pods for the flatpack building kit and associated extras, with the building completed by the licensed builder in Melbourne from our network.

Our customer had their own design for inspiration and architectural drawings were completed for our architect network partner to get building permits organised. The proposal was for the pod to sit closer to the fence than normally permissible, and this was allowed with some minor changes in materials to comply with fire regulations.

The final colour scheme selected was Woodland Grey for the external wall cladding with Woodland Grey gutters and barges. Double-glazed aluminium awning-style windows with frosting give extra privacy and there is a practical sink as desired. The double-glazed sliding door is facing away from the garden. Air-conditioning and underfloor insulation keep our customer’s art studio comfortable all year round.
