Backyard office pods Melbourne - Dandenong pic 2

Twin office pods 4.5m x 5.3m built within 2 WEEKS for home-based business at Dandenong VIC

Many people need a small WFH office pod. Others have grand designs for getting more value out of their backyard with their business ideas. Our mindful customer from Dandenong wanted two pods side-by-side for their own ‘women’s wellness centre’. With our help to organise approvals and construction, these twin multi-purpose rooms were fully completed for our customer. The actual build time was only 2 weeks!urcharge (which we’re happy to do for specific customer needs).

These pictures were taken by one of the licensed pod builders in our Melbourne network, just before leaving our customer’s site. You can easily imagine how these twin pods will settle into their surroundings once the greenery regrows around them. With a practical purpose in mind, these pods are all about internal functionality and accessibility. Note the additional non-slip access ramp and sturdy deck railings installed by the builder as part of their on-site works. With clients and staff perhaps visiting our customer’s premises, safety was not just important but necessary for our customer’s approvals, insurances, etc.

For people who want to do more ‘business’ than WFH in their home environment, our Backyard Pods team is here to help you. We’ve helped a large number of people around Melbourne, Sydney, Blue Mountains, Central Coast, Gold Coast, and Brisbane to get their home-based business premises custom designed, FULLY APPROVED, and also fully constructed and fitted out as they’ve desired. Some people have wanted to get their approval organised more easily with our help, but then wanted to complete their project themselves as owner-builders (doing their own project management with trades under their owner-builder permit) or even as DIY owner-builders. It’s all possible with Backyard Pods – get it all done for you, or DIY as much as you like.

Getting approval for any dedicated home office is necessary for all states of Australia, no matter how small the new building you choose to contain your home office. It doesn’t matter what this-company or that-company might tell you – just to ‘make a sale’ – because they don’t make the rules if they don’t mind encouraging people to break them. The national regulations (Australian Building Code) make it perfectly clear that all rooms like dedicated home offices are ‘habitable’ and cannot be housed inside an ‘exempt’ structure. You may convert your spare bedroom into a dedicated home office as part of your home, for example, but not your ‘shed’. Any non-approved ‘new room’ is strictly a ‘shed’ in regulatory terms.

Our customer in Dandenong took a very professional approach to their backyard building project right from the start. Our network partner in Melbourne, a VIC-registered architect, was able to get the entire project approved as intended for our customer and their ‘women’s wellness centre’ vision. With approvals in place, visitors to the premises can be fully insured for injury, giving specific future peace of mind to the business owner in addition to normal insurance for the building and eventual office contents.

On the technical side of this successful project, Colorbond in Monument was selected for the external wall cladding. The builder supplied black-framed sliding doors and windows, whereas many customers prefer our double-glazed range with awning-style windows as these provide internal protection from angled rain showers when the pod has no eaves. To maximise the every square centimetre of available space under the conditions of building approval, our standard size pod kits of 4.5m x 6m were cut down to the custom size 4.5m x 5.3m for a small surcharge (which we’re happy to do for specific customer needs).
