Versatile, cost-effective school pods 3m x 7m at Condell Park, Sydney NSW

It’s always a pleasure for us to help schools with cost-effective building solutions. While we have helped many private and public schools, Condell Park Public School in Sydney, with 5x Backyard Pods, is perhaps the most outstanding example of our flatpack building kits helping budgets stretch further when a school needs an extra storeroom, activity room, or staff room.

While “school pods” aren’t exactly a thing, we’ve helped numerous schools, childcare centres, and other institutions to get the buildings they need at a lower cost.

The first Backyard Pod installation at Condell Park Public School was so successful in achieving the school’s objectives for students and teachers, that another pod led to another until there are now five. All of the pods are in the versatile size of 3m x 7m, suitable for a range of purposes. A school’s needs will evolve over the years in response to changes in demographics, funding levels, and educational styles. Their flatpack building kits all came from Backyard Pods and all of the installations were completed by our network installer, who became highly regarded for his work by the school management. The activity pods are all slightly elevated on our standard 600mm foundation piers because pods don’t need slabs, which is another advantage with pods.

Colorbond ‘Woodland Grey’ was chosen for the external wall cladding, with ‘Paperbark’ roof sheeting and ‘Night Sky’ for the guttering. Not everyone gets creative with their colour choices for Backyard Pods. It’s very popular to have the whole pod in a single colour (eg: ‘Monument’). By mixing and matching the 22 colours in the Colorbond range, with Backyard Pods, you can customise the colour scheme of your building components for a more striking effect or a soft blend of neutrals, as demonstrated by this example.

The school selected double-glazed sliding aluminium-framed doors from our range, matched with our double-glazed awning-style windows, both with black frames, and these visually connect the near-black guttering for a smart, more tailored look. Double-glazing is always an intelligent choice. This is particularly the case for a public school, where the extra insulation from noise and climate helps to increase comfort and functionality while saving on heating and cooling costs.
